RPiCNC Project info
The RPi - Machinekit - Linuxcnc bit started here
The pic below was an incomplete Zyto lathe I purchased for spares. Rather a sorry state, but quite good mechanical condition below the rust and grime. After the useful spares had been harvested to rebuild another Zyto lathe, all that was left was the bedframe, some of the head & tailstock and the bare saddle.
The pic below of the bed/frame stripped down before refurb
The pic below of the bed/frame after clean up and remedial works. This involved quite a few hours hand scraping and stoning of the bedway and saddle to get a good fit and nice snug slide action
Fast forward to a rebirth as the frame for a cnc machine in the making

The above pic was early in the assembly phase with most of the bits and pieces strewn across the bench. The RPi and control electronics visable left of the keyboard.
The above pic was later in the assembly phase with vertical slide and Kress spindle in position for initial setup and preliminary checks in vertical mode.
The above pic is later still with vertical slide on an overarm vertical mode giving circa 250mm x 150mm cutting area with Kress spindle in position.
The above pic is 4 axis rotary mode with vertical slide and Kress spindle vertical mode for edge engraving - carving.
The above pic is 4 axis rotary mode with slide horizontal and Kress spindle horizontal mode for face engraving - carving.
